12. Shock for Karan, Disha's 1st assmt. & Arsh's expectation

I had been talking to Karan, although, now he had some other things for being busy, but then he never let is personal life come in between his dream. He also said that, even Prerna was excited about his decision and had been really supportive throughout. He told about a day, when Prerna looked charged up and really excited. She told Karan that her boy friend was coming to their college this weekend to see her. And also said about the places she had planned to go with him. He said, he was thunderstruck, hearing that (One more guy in process of becoming Dev.D). It always happened to him whenever he thought that he had permanently found someone special and now things will go really smooth, some or the other tragedy arose and came in between to wash-off all his dreams. He tried to keep his cool and look normal, and to pretend that he was happy to hear that (anyways in his mind he was thinking -' just let him come, i’ll cut him into pieces, but then that too was not possible as he was a body-builder). Karan tried to place himself in place of her boyfriend and imagined to carry out the plan by Prerna on the weekend, but then it was an imagination, truth was that Prerna was committed ( but why ? ) Then he tried to accept the truth and be happy for her ( Being happy in those dreams spending time with her). After 2 mins Prerna said that she had some work so she is leaving, and while standing up she said this line and walked away ( as if there was something more to add to the pain, Karan had already been into ) – ‘all that I said in last 10 minutes was one piece of my great imagination power, I told you the last day.’ Now, Karan was very slow in getting things, as tried to recollect what Prerna told, Prerna started laughing on her way back, she had been successful in fooling Karan.

In the meanwhile, Karan had joined the project he always talked about and had started experimental work on that, though it was a small project but then, he atleast started, and now some or the other way would definitely lead him to the desired destination.

One day, Disha called me. She was really excited about something. She had been doing B.Sc in Biochemistry and told about the first practical assignment she did and her experience with that. She said ‘It was a great learning experience. We went to a place from where water gets supplied to the users to around 10kms. We had to perform some tests and experiments with that sample of water, and to our surprise, it was not at all suitable for consumption. People from nearby region had been using that place for their daily works, and had polluted the region a lot. On doing our experiments we found out that just by paying a bit of attention and diverting the waste materials disposal by a little distance, the water quality could be improved to a great extent and that would help reducing the water borne diseases that were increasing at a fast rate. We tried to explain people around there about the benefits they would gain by following certain things. And to our surprise, as was our misconception about village people, these people were really cooperative. They themselves wanted to change as heir own children were getting affected because of this. They all paid attention to our teachers and us and were ready to follow the standards we asked them to.

Arsh, he again turned into his usual self. Earlier also, it was rare to hear a joke cracked by him, and now as his training was coming to an end, hardly he mentioned anything about his personal life. He told me about an incident when, he saw a lady handling a difficult situation on her own. He and some of his friends had been to the market on a weekend. There they saw a couple roaming around, everything seemed fine when suddenly the boy became angry and started pulling the girl with him. They both went some distance where one more friend of the boy joined him. All other friends of Arsh just ignored what happened, but Arsh thought that something was wrong as all of them disappeared from there suddenly. He ran after them, to see if everything was fine. When he reached the place, where all of them went, it came as a big surprise to him that, the girl had already taught them a proper lesson when they tried to misbehave with her. They didn’t know what happened exactly, but soon they came to know that the girl was daughter of their major and boys were her friend, who were (now) no more capable to walk on their legs.

I could feel the gladness in Arsh’s tone while he remembered this event. But, then he also mentioned that, maybe she was daughter of an army personnel, because of which she handled the situation easily. He said –‘ yaar, you know one thing, I really think that what that girl did, any other girl can do, infact should be capable enough to do. I seriously never felt in my whole life that a girl is less than a boy in any ways, may it be studies, sports, extra-curricular activities etc. Then why she cannot compete in strength especially when the opposite sex tries to misuse his? Do you know one thing, she can...., definitely she can.’ I replied ‘ yaa, I know. Every girl should know some basic defence techniques. They should not just give-up everytime hoping for someone to come to rescue them. And a thing that I myself feel is that, when a person knows that he/she is fighting for the right thing, they should keep trying till the end, whats the benefit if giving-up, they will definitely succeed.’ Arsh said that he had already asked Harneet to be prepared, as this time when he’ll come back home, he wanted her to give him a tough fight and if possible defeat him ( and by this he didn’t mean that usual brother-sister’s friendly fight, but be prepared for some serious stuff). And we just expected the same with each and every girl (to be self-dependent).
